About This Course
This fundamental course teaches basic concepts of how to identify and avoid common internet scams that you might experience when using your computer. NOTE: If your parent uses a smartphone or tablet to surf the internet, you might want to enroll in the more comprehensive Complete Internet Security and Scam Awareness Training for Parents course instead, which also covers mobile device topics, like smishing, QR codes, app stores, and other mobile device best practices. Topics in this course include: • What is phishing, and how to prevent yourself from becoming a victim • Social Engineering • Proper password management • Best practices on selecting and using applications from the app store • Additional best practices to know when surfing the internet This course is self-paced and available for 120 days. There are brief quizzes after each module that will test your knowledge retention, and a final quiz to reinforce the important topics. If at all possible, this program is intended to be taken by both the parent and their child (or tutor) together. By working together, they both can share how these schemes are already impacting their online experience, and answer each other's questions along the way. Once you have successfully completed the course and passed the quizzes, the true practical tests will start! With your consent, we will send simulated scam emails to you, to see if you fall victim to our simulation, or if you did the right thing. We will also let your tutor know about the upcoming tests prior to the simulations, so that they can be aware of what is about to happen, and then inform both of you of the results a few days later. If you get caught by these simulated scams, your tutor will have the opportunity to review the course content and reinforce the areas that need reviewing.
